Start-up of You

There’s a famous quote by Nobel Prize Winner, Muhammad Yunus“All Human are born Entrepreneurs.” Before civilization, we humans are all self-employed. We find ourselves food, feeding ourselves, inventing new tools for living. Basically, we decide everything ourselves in life. During this modern era, we are now become labor, as we forgot how to make our own decision and follow the instruction blindly without any second thoughts.

What if I tell you we are capable of building ourselves like one of the start-up entrepreneurs in Silicon Vally or any other successful company with efforts and individuality. We can build it like other company with a plan and towards the goal step by step. Of cause we can, after all, we are only products of society and circumstances.

I believe every one of us definitely has a pair of Nike or Adidas. Or at least had a cup of aromatic coffee sitting on the comfortable sofa in Starbucks. Why? Why we chose Adidas or Nike? Why we enjoy so much sitting at Starbucks? Because, we might give ourselves an explanation of, “we like the brand”, “the shoes feel so comfortable to wear”.

In the book “Selling the Invisible” by Harry Beckwith. People do not buy things with logic and reason. We buy because we “feel” like to buy it. Same to people, we like the person without any reason or logic. We love our life partner unconditionally without any doubt and question. Because it makes us comfortable and we feel like to be with the person.

There’s a huge misconception about “brand” by many of us. People always confuse the brand with design, logo, and colors. What branding does, it’s not the shallow appearance. But with the experience of the brand that makes people perceive about it. Same goes to people, we thought we can impress people by wearing affluently. Driving a nice luxury car to impress your crush on the first date. Because we humans like to admire the shallow object by looking at the appearance to judge others. But all this matters only in short terms because time will eventually reveal our true identity behind the mask.

If we can be able to act like a human being, being genuine with others. Treat everyone with equality, honesty, and integrity. We are actually giving other people a chance to perceive us as a different individuality. Like a successful company building it with purpose and passion, but not chasing for vanity success.

I believe everyone is born with the entrepreneur spirit. We are all unique in a different way. The modern society needs every individual to be a conformist to fit in the majority, we need to deny it. Treat yourself like a brand, what branding will you do to position yourself in this society? What should you do to be really sincere and genuine to your inner voice in order for you to cultivate your very own originality? Starbucks selling their coffee with the atmosphere. World class fitness athlete Greg Plitt selling his fitness plan with vision and motivation. Nike selling their shoes by celebrating athlete’s victories. How do you sell yourself? How do you want people to perceive about you? I think you know better than anyone.

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.”
