Once upon a time, there’s a family living in a cave. The alpha name is Dave. He is the one who responsible to bring food back to family in order for them to survive in the harsh environment. They hide inside the cave to avoid that vicious animal such as saber tooth tiger, wolves, and many others.
But luckily, there’s a lake beside the cave, and plants that constantly produce enough fruits to feed the family of Dave. And they have been relying on this resources for many years.
One day, the earth’s climate has fluctuated. And the whole places are covered by glacial. The climate change caused a lot of animals die. And all the plants are gone because of the harsh condition including Dave’s family solely food resources.
Dave is very afraid to do any decision. And he just stayed inside the cave and wait for the climate turn back to normal. Many days had passed. The condition did not get better but getting worse. But Dave just waits and did nothing. Eventually, they starved to death and nothing could save their life.
Human trained to survive in the harsh environment. Because every decision we made might lead to fatal or danger to our life. Today, in the business world. Many people are still afraid of the changes. Because making the decision is difficult or frightening.
Imagine this, the lake and the plant of Dave family food resource are your salaries provided by your same old boss in the same company for years. And you have been relying on this resources for many years. To raise your family, pay your debt, bills, and food on your table.
What if I tell you the resource someday will be gone. Because you are replaceable. Your consistent routine of your work is replaceable by machine or someone who can work far more cheaper and harder than you.
Then you will be losing your job. Jobless caused you frighten. And you remain unchanged for so many years yet you don’t know what to do in your life at this moment. Because you keep doing the same thing for your whole life. And you are not capable of embracing the challenge. You blamed the stupid company, you blamed the government, you blamed the machine that replaces you.
You’re supposed to blame yourself. Because you’re afraid to change.
The cave is the comfort zone for Dave. And yet people don’t realize the high pay salaries and the repetitive routine of our work are the comfort zone.
Out there, so many colleges and academy offering the 100% job guaranteed after graduated. But they never taught the student what is life and teach them problem-solving. Instead of giving them tools to survive in this society.
Life is not about making money and provides food on the table. Yes, we need money and food to survive. But that is not the crucial point of life. What is the purpose of life if you’re just surviving but not living your life to the fullness and authentically?
“When things do not go your way, remember that every challenge — every adversity — contains within it the seeds of opportunity and growth.”
